What is the John Muir Trail?

Nicknamed “America’s most beautiful trail”, the John Muir trail stretches 210.4 miles from Yosemite Valley to the highest peak in the continental United States, Mount Whitney. The trail was completed in 1930 and named after one of the founding members of the Sierra Club and its first President, John Muir.

Why?

I’ve actually wanted to hike the JMT before I hiked the AT. Truthfully it had a lot to do with watching Mile… Mile & A Half.

Why 10 days?

Because everything seems easier on paper. The typical thru hike of the JMT is usually around three weeks.

What are you going to eat?

I’m not taking a stove this time; so mostly bars, candy, and two cold soak meals each day. Cold soaking is where you add water to food and let it re-hydrate while you hike. It’s actually not as bad as it sounds. Below is the full nerd view.

Are you going to carry all of your food for 10 days?

No, thankfully I can resupply at the half way point by sending myself a five gallon bucket to Muir Trail Ranch.
